Moxibustion
Moxibustion, a warming technique using a processed form of the mugwort plant called “moxa,” was first found documented in writing around the Warring States Period (475 B.C. to 221 B.C.) in China.
This technique was developed in the northern Asian climate as a response to a relative abundance of ailments and conditions of dis-ease caused by the cold, damp, and windy weather. Mugwort, as with all plants, has an energetic temperature which makes it more appropriate for some conditions than others. Mugwort is considered particularly warming and drying, and in that way is the perfect candidate for pain, soreness, and achiness the worsens with damp weather, cold weather, windy weather, or any combination of the three.
I use moxibustion in my practice in a variety of ways, always individualized to the needs of the client. If you have any concerns about heat near your skin, but you feel you may benefit from this type of treatment, please contact me and we can discuss all of your questions.
